Moderate/Faster rides on Sunday

The Sunday rides start from King Alfred’s Statue in The Broadway, Winchester. They are aimed at the more experienced cyclist and usually start at 8.30 am or 9am am depending upon the time of year. They are either 1/2 day or full day.

There are two groups:

  • moderate group averaging between 12 mph and 14 mph and
  • faster group averaging 15 mph – 17 mph.

Both groups ride to the same coffee stop and the 1/2 day groups then return to Winchester.

The ½ day option gets back into Winchster by lunchtime and the faster group will have ridden about 45 – 55 miles and the moderate group about 35 – 45 miles.

For those seeking a full day ride the ride continues at the pace of the moderate group to a lunch destination and gets back into Winchester between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm depending upon whether we stop for tea. The full day option is about 65 miles – 85 miles depending upon the time of year.

Sunday rides may be faster and further but there is still plenty of time to chat and look at the scenery.

From April to September we run our popular evening which are also aimed at the more experienced cyclist.

7pm King Alfred's Statue: For these rides we split into Moderate (12 - 14 mph) and  Faster (15 - 17 mph) groups. Each group rides to a rural pub, arriving at about 8.30 pm. At this point, there is the option of stopping for a drink and/or food, or riding straight back to Winchester. If the latter, the rides get back to Winchester 9-9.30 pm and if the former about 10.30 pm. The distance ridden by the Moderate group is about 25-30 miles and the Faster group will ride several miles extra. Whichever group you pick, lights are essential on these rides.
