Cycle Winchester

About our rides

We offer supportive and social rides, each led by a designated leader, at a range of speeds and distances to suit most interests and levels (excluding racing). Rides are held on weekdays and at weekends, with some evening rides in the summer season.

Please check the Club Calendar for the format, start time and location of individual rides.

This is made clear in the ride details.  Rides can be booked when the leader has posted details of the ride on the Club Calendar (usually a week in advance).

Other rides

  • Wednesday evening rides (summer season only): distance varies depending on daylight hours. There is a pub stop either during or after the ride. Medium, Medium+ and Faster pace categories.
  • Free format rides: The pace is within the Easy/Easy+ pace range (9-12mph) and the start location may be outside Winchester. The pace, distance, start location and stops are published in the Club Calendar. For more information contact the Easy and Easy+ Rides co-ordinator.
  • Introductory rides: We run occasional introductory rides that are around 20 miles long and ridden at a gentle pace, with a break in the middle. If you are a novice cyclist, haven’t ridden for a while, or are unsure about riding with a group, these are an ideal way to give group riding a try. In addition, our Easy afternoon rides in the summer months are a gentle introduction to the group and are a maximum of 25 miles in length.
  • Off-road rides: We are currently trialling occasional off-road rides suitable for mountain bikes or gravel bikes. For more information contact the Winchester CTC Secretary.
